WORKSHOPS WITH HEATHER
After many years of practicing as an RMT and treating people and their physical ailments, I am bringing my knowledge of anatomy and the fascial system onto the mat. Guiding and supporting people to find more ease and calm in their bodies and minds. In each workshop we will review the anatomical structures involved. We will discuss common ailments and how yoga and breathe work can become a tool for the maintenance and improvement of vibrant health and well being.
Sessions will include a take home workbook and gift, to support you in your practice.
BREATH; YOUR GATEWAY TO EASE
All of us know how to breathe, but are you aware of how you breathe?
When we are stressed or anxious our breath tends to be short and from high up in our chest. Causing pain in the neck and shoulders, sending the message to our nervous system to fight, flee or freeze. When we are in the habit of breathing in this way our bodies and minds are in a constant state of stress. When we learn to breathe deeply and slowly we send a new message to our nervous system to relax and feel at ease. In the workshop we will practice a variety of breath exercises in seated, and laying down positions. Once we can harness the power of our breath, we can learn to find more ease when we encounter stress and adversity.
FULL BODY YIN AND FASCIAL RELEASE
The art of Yin Yoga is long holds, with lots of nourishing breath. Yin Yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body—the tendons, fasciae, and ligaments—with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. This helps to ease chronic joint tightness from the body. In this workshop we will use blocks, bolsters, blankets and yoga straps to support the body in our yoga poses. At the end of this workshop you will feel greater movement in the body.
RESTORE AND RELAX ~ A NERVOUS SYSTEM RESET
Many of us suffer from chronic stress, which, over extended periods, taxes the nervous system. This causes dis- ease in the mind and body. Some of us don’t even know what it feels like to relax. Our lives are a series of “To Do’s” This is your time to take a staycation from your stress. Wear loose comfy clothes and come prepared to relax, no yoga experience necessary. We use bolsters, blocks, and blankets to deeply support you in your poses. Each pose is designed to bring ease into your body and mind.
Use yoga for strength and body awareness.
Have you noticed that your shoulders are rounding forward, does your low back ache? Do you stare at a computer screen, or drive long hours? Our bodies were built to move, and move in a number of different ways. Over extended periods of time and after misuse, this miraculous machine tends to break down. We suffer from chronic headaches, aching shoulders, and low back pain that can travel down our legs. In this workshop we will learn to move our bodies, and learn to build the muscular strength to support us throughout the day.
YOGA TO EASE LOW BACK PAIN
In this interactive workshop we will identify common low back conditions and review the anatomical structures involved for each specific condition. We will then practice a guided meditation specifically for pain, followed by yoga postures to help alleviate low back pain. In each posture you will be supported using blocks, bolsters, and blankets. In each movement pattern we will refine the pose for your unique body enabling you to modify for your specific low back condition.
